Becoming a Police Recruit is the first step toward a meaningful and respected career in law enforcement. It is a role filled with responsibility, discipline, and a strong sense of purpose. Police recruits are individuals who have been selected to undergo training at a police academy, where they learn the skills and knowledge needed to serve and protect their communities.
This stage is both challenging and rewarding, as recruits transform from civilians into trained professionals ready to handle real-world situations.
A police recruit is a candidate who has been accepted into a police training program or academy. During this period, recruits undergo intensive physical, academic, and practical training to prepare for the duties of a police officer.
They are not yet fully sworn officers but are in the process of learning law enforcement procedures, legal frameworks, and public safety practices.
Essential Job Duties

Age 21 or older Normal hearing corrected or uncorrected with uncorrected hearing loss not to exceed moderate.
Applicants must be able to pass the Department’s Physical Assessment Standards
Must be a United States citizen
No felony convictions, history of criminal or improper conduct, or poor driving record, which may affect the suitability
for law enforcement work
If prior military service, applicant must have an honorable discharge
